Sodium Dichromate Seal for Anodic Coating

To our valued customers,

Due to ever increasing environmental regulations and to comply with SCAQMD Rule 1469, we have decided to stop using Sodium Dichromate seal for Anodic coatings produced at AAA Plating & Inspection, Inc.

We will remove this seal from our line effective January 1, 2021.

For those of you not familiar with Sodium Dichromate, it is the chemical that imparts the characteristic “greenish” tint to the anodized surface, while adding corrosion resistance and providing a base for priming and painting. It has always been our default seal for Type II and III anodizing.

So as not to compromise the quality of the parts being sent to us for processing, we will continue to offer two viable replacements for Dichromate seal. These mainstream sealants are “Dilute Chromate Seal” and “Deionized Hot Water Seal”. We run the required monthly tests on these seals for both corrosion resistance (Salt Spray) and paint adhesion (Wet Tape) with excellent results. We have always used the Dilute Chromate Seal as our default seal for Type I anodizing.

While we recommend the Dilute Chromate Seal for most parts, we leave the choice up to you, the customer. Just let us know which you prefer, and do not worry, they will both meet the requirements of MIL-A-8625 as well as the major Prime specifications.

Our Estimating department will be happy to answer any questions you may have about this or any other processing we perform.

We wish you all a prosperous New Year!
